Margazhi rangoli designs

After Deepavali the next important kolam season is Margazhi when the whole month is a kolam month in Tamil Nadu. It is the time to see big and colourful kolam designs, competitions a time when beautiful kolam are displayed at the entrance of many a house in Tamil Nadu.  The varieties are many sikku kolam, free hand kolam or pulli kolam (designs with dots)

Rangoli-sans-dots would like to share a few designs for Margazhi 2013.  The designs for 2012 are already there in Margazhi kolam designs and Margazhi kolangal

7 dot pulli kolam design

The kolam design below is 7 dot grid type, the dot pattern being 7 by 7.  The four pink petals are drawn followed by the four patterns in red and pink being drawn.  The four slightly curved lines filled with yellow and blue delineate the central and outer parts.  After filling all the colours the patterns with white rangoli powder are added to complete the design.  The thumbnail gives a clear picture ( I think ). The video may be helpful for those who need it for reference.  My sister, who lives in Mumbai discussed the rangoli with dots drawn in Maharashtra as a result there may be some influence of Maharashtra rangoli with dots in this kolam design.

Kolam with 7 dots are also there in 7 pulli kolam

The next kolam is also a 7 dot kolam but a simple sikku kolam.  The dot pattern used in 7 by 7.  The steps required for drawing this simple design is given in the video below.  However I have drawn it parallel lines of two different colours.  To know the method of using two different colours and to view very simple patterns of this variety go to simple sikku kolam designs
