Akshaya Tritiya is considered by many to be one of the most auspicious days for starting a new venture. It is considered to be auspicious to learn a new art or mantra on this day. So our blog has a series of kolams (aka kolangal) . It will be in a series with 4 , 5 , 6,7 dots........
This is a design with dot pattern 7 dots by 7 dots. Some influence of sikku kolam is present but I have tried to do something different. Place the dot template, draw the patterns at the four corners of the square, then proceed to fill the designs at the centre. After completion, colours of our choice can be filled. The result is the kolam below.
This one is a kolam with a dot pattern 6 dot by 6. Frankly, this design is not what I planned but as I stated many times the influence of free hand designs makes me change the design while drawing. A kolam with four "angry birds" says my daughter(!) because all birds have turned their heads away and are not looking at one another.

This kolam is with dot pattern of 5 by 5. This reminds me of the flower datura (called oomatham poo in Tamil) the only difference being that datura is white in colour. I hope this information is correct.

This one is a very simple kolam with 4 by 4 dots. I wanted to post elsewhere but I wanted to maintain the order of dots. Hence it is here. It is just a design with some symmetrical patterns. In case you want to view the video for this kolam please click here
